The three champions of IEM Gyeonggi have been crowned

Over the past three days, Intel Extreme Masters brought esports to the stage at Goyang Sports Complex and saw a good chunk of games with brilliant plays in front of a huge, ecstatic crowd. While Saturday saw the last semis determining the finals participants, Sunday was all about how could take home the title.

StarCraft II

While INnoVation was waiting for his opponent in the grand final, he and all the fans in Korea and watching on the streams got another very close semi final, as Stats and ByuL took their series to the full five maps. In the end it was Stats, earning another chance for an IEM title going up against INnoVation on Sunday. However, in the grand final it was INnoVations time to shine. With four wins in a row he took the grand final in stunning fashion, earning him US$15,000 and another title to his cabinet!

  • Semi Final #2: Stats 3-2 ByuL
  • Grand Final: INnoVation 4-0 Stats

Overwatch

While the first day of Overwatch in Gyeonggi saw two clear series, the semi finals got a bit closer. First off, Lunatic-Hai carried on from their 3-0 victory over Misfits and were able to close out their series against Afreeca Freecs Blue by 3-1, being the first team set for the grand final. In the second semi, it was once again the quarter finals winner, Luxury Watch Red, taking control. By 3-1 they won their series over Misfits, making the grand final an all Korean affair. The grand final gave us another four maps with the better end for Luxury Watch Red, who once more won by 3-1 taking home the title of the invitational as well as the lion’s share of the US$100,000 prize pool!

League of Legends

After the continued impressive performance by Samsung Galaxy in their semi final victory over Team Liquid, it was time for Immortals and Kongdoo Monster to determine who will get the chance to play the Worlds finalist for the title in Gyeonggi. Even though Immortals were able to take one map against the second at KeSPA Cup, it was Kongdoo Monster setting the stage for an all korean grand final in League of Legends. Here, Samsung Galaxy was able to pull ahead wiuth a 2-0 lead, before Kongdoo Monster were able to score a win and force the fourth game of the series. However, Samsung Galaxy were able to close out the series bny a 3-1 scoreline, taking home the US$50,000 as well as securing their spot for IEM Katowice!
