And on the third day, God said “Let there be Overwatch at Intel Extreme Masters Gyeonggi’ – and so it was. Day three was the first of three consecutive days to feature all IEM Gyeonggi titles and we were treated to some amazing matchups with both dominant results, as well as close shaves. Take a look.
League of Legends
Touted as the tournament favorites, Samsung Galaxy went into the first LoL semi final against Team Liquid full of confidence and things panned out just as expected ahead of the series. The Koreans didn’t slow down at all and kept up their impeccable form to eliminate the American organisation with a convincing 2-0 thus securing themselves the first spot in the grand finals.
Dark finally met his match on day three of the StarCraft II bracket, as he ran into INnoVation in the first semi final. The ZvT was an exciting back and forth, but unlike his fellow Terran ByuN in the previous round, INnoVation did manage to eventually decide the fifth map for himself, handing Dark his tournament exit in the latter’s second ZvT in a row.
Day three marked the start of the Overwatch main event in Gyeonggi and we already had to say goodbye to two of the contenders in the quarterfinals. Both Misfits and KongDoo were left in the dust with 3-0’s by Lunatic-Hai and LW Red respectively. This means we have found our semi final matchups and tomorrow we’ll find out which teams will make it to the grand finals.
Tomorrow’s semi final games start at 11:00 KST beginning with the second League of Legends semi, followed by StarCraft II at 14:00 KST and the two Overwatch matches starting at 16:00. Tune in on our streaming hub and follow IEM on Facebook and Twitter for live coverage and updates of the event.
