North American Call of Duty World League Stage 1 quarterfinals recap

Stage 1 Finals Day 2 Recap

With Relegation matches out of the way yesterday, today marked the start of the North America Call of Duty World League, presented by PlayStation 4 Stage 1 Finals. Eight teams entered the field of battle to vie for their share of the USD$250,000 prize poo l in the Quarterfinals, but only four move on to the Semifinals and Finals on Sunday.

Our first match saw Rise Nation go up against Luminosity. Rise stormed through the first three games in this match, but Luminosity finally show signs of life during their Capture the Flag match. However, LG’s Stage 1 Finals dreams ended in the the second Search and Destroy. Rise was the first team to advance into the Semifinals with a 4-1 series win.

The second match up was a nail-biter as #1 OpTic Gaming went up against #8 Team SoloMid. In the regular season, OpTic has a 2-0 win count over TSM, and while it was generally expected that OpTic would run through this series, TSM shocked everyone by putting up a strong fight. OpTic took the first Hardpoint in a commanding fashion, but TSM came back to take Game 2 S&D. For the first time in all of Stage 1, OpTic lost an Uplink on Breach and were down in the series 2-1. But in CTF, Seth “Scump” Abner went big for OpTic as they were able to close it out in overtime and tie the series back up at 2-2.

Once again, in Game 5 S&D, we saw TSM take down OpTic and had the 3-2 series lead. OpTic fought back in Hardpoint, winning 250-135 and taking it to a Game 7. In the series, OpTic had lost both Search and Destroy games, so the final game 7 could have been in anyone’s favor; however, OpTic would not let this be the end of their run this weekend, and they were able to find the strength to close out Game 7 S&D 6-3.

In the third match, Team eLevate came out hot as they introduced Team EnVyUs to the 100 point club in Hardpoint, winning it 250-77. EnVyUs did not back down, taking the S&D with a quick 6-3 win. While EnVyUs was also able to win the next Uplink match, eLevate completely shut out EnVyUs with a win in CTF and S&D to take the series 4-2.

The final match of the day was FaZe Clan vs. compLexity. FaZe started off the series with big wins in Hardpoint and Search and Destroy. The S&D Game 2 was devastating for compLexity: they started off with a 4-0 lead in the round count, and from there it all fell apart. FaZe won the next six rounds in a row to take Game 2. Overall, FaZe was able to close out the series with a 4-0 sweep, which was the first 4-0 win in any of the matchups all weekend so far.
