The results of this weekends offline qualifier have been far from what most people expected. While pretty much all of the favorites had to fight hard to earn their spots, some struggled more than anyone would have expected. In the midst of it all various underdogs came through to show that there are plenty of non-European contenders who cannot be counted out on the global stage.
Group A - Tough matches throughout the day:
Some favorites already had to show everything they got right from the first match: two of the kick off matches ended 16-14, while Titan vs. PiTER was taken to a 28-24 scoreline before the French took the win. Afterwards the matches kept being interesting, with Titan ultimately losing to Counter Logic Gaming 14-16 while LGB eSports took down Flipsid3 Tactis by 16-11, seeing the Norwegians and the Americans qualified for the Major.
In the Loser Bracket, both Titan and Flipsid3 were able to underline their ambitions once more. Titan won by 16-4 over CPH Wolves, while Flipsid3 took PiTER down by 16-3, ending the first day with a colorful mix qualified for ESL One Katowice and leaving fans anxiously awaiting the second day for even more big names and promising teams.
Group B - Bringing in even more for the mix
The second group of the offline qualifier was even more colorful than Group A, with teams such as Vox Eminor and KaBuM representing Australia and Brazil. They faced a tough road with top tier contenders such as Cloud9, mousesports, Team Dignitas awaiting them. While KaBuM was sent to the Loser Bracket by mousesports (10-16), Vox Eminor kicked 3DMAX down and advanced to the winners bracket, joining mouz, Cloud 9 and Team Dignitas at the verge of booking tickets for Katowice.
Yet in the deciding matches it would be Cloud9 who advanced over mouz 16-13, while Vox Eminor came out on top 16-14 over Team Dignitas to claim their ticket. In the losers bracket the teams sent down first, were the ones to claim the tickets. KaBuM took Dignitas down by 16-3 to claim their ticket and mousesports lost to 3DMAX by 8-16, seeing the Finish side joining the major.
