Yesterday, August 7th, the ESL Arena at gamescom hosted the ESL One Battlefield Summer 2015 Season finals. Eight of the best teams from around the world traveled to Cologne to battle it out for the ESL One championship and their share of the US$35,000 prize pool. All eyes were on Fnatic to see whether they manage to grab the first place for the fifth time in a row. Despite their opponents putting, there was no way of stopping the former champions of coming out on top yet again.
The group stages
The eight teams were divided into two groups of four and they were dominated by the favourites: Fnatic in group A and Dexterity in group B. Both of the teams breezed through their groups without dropping a single game. Following behind were Epsilon eSports and PENTA Sports who advanced to the playoffs by winning the loser’s bracket.
The playoffs
The semifinals brought no upsets as the two biggest favourites, Fnatic and Dexterity, took down their opponents, PENTA Sports and Epsilon eSports respectively, in a dominating 2-0 fashion.
The grand final between Fnatic and Dexterity delivered tons of exciting action with both teams giving it their very best. Fnatic took the first round but Dexterity did not give up and managed to draw, forcing the finals into overtime. In the end, it was Fnatic who once again proved they are the best Battlefield 4 team in the world and secured their fifth ESL One Battlefield 4 championship - congratulations!
