Yesterday marked the start of the highly anticipated group matches for CS:GO at the Intel Extreme Masters Katowice World Championship. Twelve of the world’s best teams are eyeing the huge Intel Extreme Masters trophy and six of them already had the chance to size each other up in Group A. Check out how day one went down!
Group A
The six teams seeded into Group A were none other than Astralis, FaZe Clan, Ninjas in Pyjamas, OpTic Gaming, Fnatic and Immortals. Many of the matchups were incredibly close and we got to witness some extended overtimes in the battle for an all-important top three finish. You can find the round robin results below:
Due to three teams finishing in the top half, all with five wins each, there was need for additional tiebreakers after the regular matches concluded, which saw the following results and final standings:
- FaZe Clan 10:7 Immortals
- Astralis 2:4 FaZe Clan
- Immortals 11:13 Astralis
Team | Score | Status | |
1. | FaZe Clan | 4-1 | Semifinal |
2. | Astralis | 4-1 | Quarterfinal |
3. | Immortals | 4-1 | Quarterfinal |
4. | Fnatic | 2-3 | Eliminated |
5. | Ninjas in Pyjamas | 1-4 | Eliminated |
6. | OpTic Gaming | 0-5 | Eliminated |
As eventual first place finishers, FaZe Clan secured themselves a direct ticket into the semifinals while Astralis and Immortals will be keeping a close eye on tomorrow’s Group B results in anticipation of the quarterfinal matchups.
