North American Call of Duty World League Challenge Division recap: OpTic roars back

The final Call of Duty World League, Presented by PlayStation North America Challenge Division Event took place this past weekend, and OpTic Gaming came out on top winning the $10,000 first place prize. OpTic went up against Rise Nation in the Grand Finals and won the series 3-2. They dominated Rise in the Hardpoint game, but Rise came back strong and won both Search and Destroy and Uplink. Ultimately, OpTic was able to come back and close the series out in a Game 5. OpTic had an impressive run in this event; as they only dropped two maps the entire weekend.

The second semifinal match was an incredible series. While the OpTic vs. Team eLevate semifinal match was a quick 3-0 shut out in favor of OpTic, compLexity vs. Rise was a completely different story. The Game 3 Capture the Flag match between these two teams lasted the full 20 minutes, going to double overtime and ended in a draw. In fact, this was the first Capture the Flag match in the World League in Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 to end in a draw. The match had to be replayed, and Rise Nation surprised everyone after the stalemate by winning the replay 8-0.

In this weekend’s event, no Challenge Division teams were able to make it out of Round 16. Last weekend saw C9 Eclipse and Panda Gaming make a strong run in the bracket, but this time around, both of those teams were stopped with a 0-3 series loss. Team Liquid Pro looked as if they had a chance by forcing a Game 5 against FaZe Clan, but FaZe won it in Round 11.

Another impressive showing came from Team Kaliber this weekend, as they took down H2K 3-0. TK took Rise Nation to a Game 5, but they lost in Round 11.
