Last weekend, the 16 best Challenge Division teams clashed for the chance to go head to head with the bottom four of the Pro Division in the Stage 1 Call of Duty World League relegation. After facing each other in four groups of four as well as the playoff bracket, we now know the four teams who will be going up against Pulse, LDLC, Giants and Vitality.
The group stage
After a total of 24 matches played, the final eight teams were found, with these then moving on to the elimination bracket. In an outcome that was close to the predictions made by Philip “Momo” Whitfield, we saw some series going the other way as well as one group's top three only being divided by the score difference. Check out all the groups’ results and placements over at ESL Play!
The first and second placed teams from the four groups:
- Group A: Supremacy and fabE
- Group B: Team Tempo and HyperGames
- Group C: Exertus and Ironide
- Group D: Enrage and Baskonia eSports
The playoffs
In the quarterfinals, it was Supremacy and Exertus leaving no doubt about their ambitions to make it to the Pro Division, beating both Baskonia eSports and HyperGames 4-0. While Team Tempo lost one map to Ironide, German team fabE had the closest win with their 4-2 over Enraged.
The full quarterfinal results were as follows:
- Supremacy vs. Baskonia eSports: 4-0
- Exertus vs. HyperGames: 4-0
- Team Tempo vs. Ironide: 4-1
- Enraged vs. fabE: 2-4
After the first semifinal of Supremacy versus Exertus - which the latter won after a close 3-4 series - the remaining matches had to be postponed. Due to the imminent final relegation matches, the remaining seeding games of the relegation qualifier will be played up until Thursday evening to determine the matchups for the relegation starting on Friday.
