PENTA Sports were one of the surprises of day one after replacing former in-game leader strux1 with Troubley only a short time time before going into their second major. Now they are part of the top eight once again and on their way to meet one of the strongest teams around. Fnatic, on the other hand, gave some of the most dominant performances at Katowice so far, underlining their favorite position – but could they back this reputation up once again?
MAP ONE: Inferno
Starting as T Fnatic underlined their favorite role by taking the A spot very fast and dismantling PENTA on the pistol round. But this very solid round was followed by a lot of back and forth action for the two teams, seeing PENTA being able to deal damage to the favorite in this match. They were able to keep the flow of the game balanced up to an all equal 3-3, before Fnatic were able to score another three rounds in a row. A fourth round went to the site of the Germans before Fnatic took the upper hand again for almost the entire remaining rounds ending the first half at an 11-4 scoreline.
The second half saw PENTA winning the pistol round and started a streak, catching up to the Swedes. After a total of four round back to back to the Germans, Fnatic scored their first on CT side. From this 12-8 on, Fnatic had the game in their hands once again. Round after round went to the Swedes, even though PENTA were able to still taking them to the edge time and time again. But in the end, it was Fnatic picking up the remaining rounds to close the game at a 16-8 scoreline.
MAP TWO: Cache
Fnatic took the streak from Interno over to Cache, winning the pistol round starting as CT and carrying on to extend the lead to 5-0, before PENTA found a way to break their lines. Rounds were traded as PENTA started playing a lot faster than before, taking the game to a 6-3, before the Swedes brought their lead back to five rounds with a 8-3 scoreline. From here on Fnatic didn’t let a round slip and closed the first half at a scoreline of 12-3.
With this very good performance on their back, Fnatic won the pistol round and moved at full speed towards the semifinal, even though PENTA knew to make their rounds as expensive as possible. Four more rounds was scored by the Germans but they couldn’t stop Fnatic from advancing to the semis. 16-7 was the final scoreline as Fnatic took the quarter 2-0 over the well playing but unlucky players of PENTA. While dealing a lot of damage during the rounds, it wasn’t on them to convert this into won rounds and so no further upset was caused by them.
