Fnatic stays atop the leaderboard in Europe, while in North America, a novice rocks the prime spot after week three

Due to ESL One New York, only nine teams across both regions were active in ESL Pro League week three, playing a total of seven matches. Let’s see if the few active squads used the absence of the top dogs to improve upon their standings.

EUROPE

BIG won all four maps they played against Heroic and GODSENT, which propelled them from 11th to 4th place in the standings. After a rocky start into the season, the Germans seem to have arrived in EPL after week three and now have a record of 5W-1OTW-4L. If gob b’s boys manage to keep up the pace, even a top six placing and a ticket to the LAN finals in Odense is possible. Of course, it won’t get easier from here on out, as BIG still has to face some of the favourites (G2, Astralis, North).

Team LDLC, who fought their way into Pro League through the Mountain Dew League, also seized the moment to dig themselves out of the cellar. Coming into week three with only two maps played and last in the standings, Ex6TenZ’s squad won three out of their four maps played against GODSENT and Hellraisers, jumping to rank eleven with a record of 3W-3L. The French-Belgian-Swiss mix still has a lot less matches than most other teams, therefore chances to move up in the ranking are still very much alive.

LDLC’s and BIG’s rise in week three came at the cost of another team, GODSENT. The Swedes lost all four maps they played against aforementioned teams and dropped from rank seven to eight. But worse than that is their new record of 3W-1OTW-7L. It’s still early in the season, but looking at the opposition they still have to face (North, Astralis, Fnatic, G2), a top six placing already seems unlikely.

NORTH AMERICA

With 8W-2L, Misfits are tied for first place with OpTic Gaming in the North American Division. Once again, seang@res is displaying his abilities as IGL, as he leads this explosive young team to the top with tactically thorough Counter-Strike. Misfits won both maps they played against Splyce on train and nuke and are looking to become the surprise team of the season in NA if they can qualify for the LAN finals in Denmark.

Furthermore, Rogue, Splyce and Ghost Gaming were active in week three, all of which are having troubles coping in EPL. Rogue (2W-8L) and Ghost (1W-9L) already seem safe picks for the relegation battle later in the season, whereas Splyce (3W-6L-1OTL) might manage to cement a position somewhere mid-table.
