The League of Legends Intel Extreme Masters World Championship continued yesterday, February 23rd, with day two of the group stage matches, with some of the teams fighting for the semifinals and some for survival in the tournament. With so much on the line, all of the teams gave it their all delivering some exciting matches.
Group A
There was one match to play in group A yesterday – the elimination match between M19 and Hong Kong Esports. M19 did show us at 2016 Worlds that they are capable of beating the favorites however, it did not happen this time. Hong Kong Esports took the series 2-0 and will once again face H2k in the battle for the semifinal in the Spodek arena on Saturday, February 25th.
Group B
There were two matches waiting for us in group B. We started off with the winner's match between Unicorns of Love and Flash Wolves in which Flash Wolves once again showed class and took the series 2-0 securing a slot in the semifinals taking place on Sunday, February 26th, in the Spodek arena.
Ending the day were Kongdoo Monster taking on G2 Esports with both of the teams fighting to remain in the tournament. We saw a hard-fought series that needed to be taken to all three games as both teams were determined to continue their run for the IEM trophy. Despite a rocky start to the event, G2 Esports managed to take down the Korean team 2-1 and move onto the decider match against Unicorns of Love which will be played tomorrow, February 25th, in the Spodek arena.
