ESL have partnered with Supercell, the developers of Brawl Stars, to deliver the 2020 Brawl Stars Championship.
The Brawl Stars Championship is open to fans from around the globe, who can participate in monthly in-game Championship Challenges in order to reach online regional qualifiers. The top teams from the Online Qualifiers will participate in-person at the Monthly Finals, the first of which is scheduled for March 7-8 in Katowice, Poland. Following these monthly tournaments, the season will culminate with the World Finals in Fall 2020. Supercell is providing $1 million in prize money for the competition, and the community will be able to bolster the prize pool by up to $500,000 through select in-game purchases.
The open-format global esports competition, which will host monthly finals out of ESL’s studio in Poland, will be broadcast on the Brawl Stars Youtube Channel.
“The Brawl Stars Championship makes it possible for all players—no matter their previous experience in esports—to brawl on a global stage,” said Supercell’s Kim Jensen, who oversees Brawl Stars esports. “The open format of the competition removes any barriers to entry and means that it will truly be the best of the best that is crowned World Champion. Brawl Stars esports grew out of fan-initiated tournaments during the game’s beta, and we felt it was important that the Brawl Stars Championship continued to highlight the game’s most important element: its passionate community.”
“We are incredibly excited to work on such an amazing game like Brawl Stars. Supercell has produced a great competitive title for esports and we are truly happy to execute The Brawl Stars Championship together with them” says Bogdan Grigorie, Publisher Relations Manager at ESL. ”Teaming up with the leading Finnish game developer on the delivery of their first championship of Brawls Stars is an extremely important step for us since we have been supporting mobile esports and innovative, new formats here at ESL from the very start”
Players must be 16 years or older to compete.
