With a 3-2 victory over home town favorites Team Liquid in the final of ESL One New York, Mousesports have joined the club of five teams that are in contention for the Intel Grand Slam. The European team took advantage of the complete collapse of FaZe Clan who lost in the group stage to G2 Esports and NRG and the absence of Astralis.
"We were really looking to prove we can still play good CS with this team and I think we certainly did that," said team leader chrisJ. "Somehow we just kept believing. Nobody was angry or giving up, we just kept playing and eventually everybody started playing well, hitting their shots and we came back. That's why you play CS, to win tournaments like this."
Mouz now has nine events to collect another three trophies and win the Intel Grand Slam. In spite of their significant dip in form, FaZe Clan are still the nearest team to the $1,000,000 with two championships (IEM Sydney 2018 and ESL One Belo Horizonte 2018) and four events to win two more. The current best team in the world Astralis is at two championships (DreamHack Masters Marseille 2018 and ESL Pro League Season 7), but they only have three events to win two more titles.
The next tournament will be Intel Extreme Masters Chicago on November 10-11 where all of the teams currently able to complete the Intel Grand Slam are in contention.
