ESL One Frankfurt: Were they actually underdogs?

The biggest Dota event Europe has ever seen is drawing closer and closer as the European qualifiers for ESL One Frankfurt are set to conclude on May the 11th 2014. One out of a total of three European teams has already qualified for the event following the first match of the qualifier playoffs took place last night.

Facing off were Team Empire and Team Dog, on the line a spot in the main event. The Dogs looked to face early elimination as Team Empire pulled ahead by two matches, but turned out to prove that they were not just underdogs but the dark horses in this competition. A swift tie in the form of a 2-2 gave them the morale boost they needed to defeat the Russian powerhouse and become the first team to qualify for ESL One Frankfurt.

Team Dog may not have the longest history in Dota, but their respective players do. With the likes of Pajkatt and MiSery, players that already took part in the very first International in 2011, the team is stacked with veterans from as far back as the original Dota. Their experience really showed in the recent weeks as they've moved through the qualifiers in a convincing fashion.

We've summarized what happened in Groups A and B, and how Team Dog made it into the main event in Frankfurt on June the 28th to the 29th 2014.

After an incredible evening of Dota 2 with the first European qualifier playoffs match, tonight will see Fnatic and Cloud 9 face off to determine the second team at the main event. Who will make it through? Tune in as the action unfolds on joinDOTA.
