ESL and Intel Extreme Masters announce season nine's final stops in Cologne, Taipei and Katowice

With its stop at the iconic SAP Center having been announced just last week, ESL is pleased to reveal that Intel Extreme Masters will be finishing up its ninth season by stopping by in Cologne, Taipei and Katowice. This brings the total number of events held and countries visited by the tournament series this season up to six, and means that eSports fans worldwide have another three events to look forward to before its close.

Cologne

Intel Extreme Masters Cologne kicks off just three weeks after San Jose, and is to run from the 18th to the 21st of December at ESL’s German studios. Here, a US$30,000 League of Legends competition will see the world’s top pro gamers make their way to the European eSports capital to try and secure their share of this impressive prize pool. With the corresponding event in season eight having previously broken ESL viewership records, this will definitely be a big one.

Taipei

What better place to hold the first Intel Extreme Masters event of 2015 than in Taipei, Southeast Asia’s leading eSports country? From the 28th of January to the 1st of February, Intel Extreme Masters Taipei will play host to both StarCraft II and League of Legends competitions as part of the Taipei Game Show, one of Asia’s largest professional game exhibitions.

Katowice

We will be wrapping up the season with the Intel Extreme Masters World Championship from March the 12th to the 15th 2015 at Katowice’s Spodek arena in Poland, the site of one of the tournament series’ previous record-breaking events in 2014. Set to be attended by eight of the world’s best League of Legends teams from North America, Europe and Asia including the previous stops’ winners and the best StarCraft II players of the season, the event will see its competitors battle it out for a whopping US$200,000 in prize money.

Michal “Carmac” Blicharz, managing director of pro gaming at ESL, said of the announcement:

"It's a massive milestone for us to go to two major sports arenas in one season. This is really shaping up to be the best Intel Extreme Masters season ever. I couldn't be more excited about the rest of the tour!"

George Woo, event and sponsorships program manager at Intel, shared this sentiment, saying:

“I am very excited to bring the Intel Extreme Masters World Championship back to Poland. The passion of Polish fans is unparalleled. They help elevate our events to a whole new level.”
