EMS One Katowice: Unlucky Danes fall to Ninjas' ambush

When Team Dignitas got into the quarter finals, they already said that their expectations had been exceeded and anything else would just be the icing on the cake. Going into the semifinal against Ninjas in Pyjamas, fan favorite FeTiSh said that he couldn't feel any better at this point. However, was his team able to withstand the raw power of NiP?

de_inferno: NiP started off by showing that they came here to win the title Fnatic stole from them at DreamHack Winter. Starting as CT, f0rest led his team to not only win the pistol round but also pick up seven rounds in a row thereafter - faced with such a rock-hard defense, Dignitas couldn't pick up the pace they had shown in their prior matches. Ninjas in Pyjamas really proved their reputation as a favorite with this game. Round after round went in favor of the Swedes, with everyone waiting for the next big play by cajunb or device. In the 14th round, device opened up a fight on the B spot with a double kill, netting his team two rounds to end the half 13-2 in favor of NiP. With the pistol round going to the Swedes, it looked like the game was already over. However, Dignitas fought back in the eco, taking it and the following round to bring the scoreline to 14-6 before NiP was finally able to take the last two rounds they needed.

de_nuke: NiP once again started as T and, just like in their game against compLexity, they started to dominate the usually CT-biased map. They picked up a 3-0 lead before cajunb was able to bring four of them down and pick up the first round for Dignitas. However, this couldn't stop NiP from pushing on towards the Grand Final, and they picked up two more rounds before device was able to win a one on three but not defuse the bomb as time ran out. At 7-1, the Danes once again found a chance to change the direction of the game, but once again this only broke NiP's streak by one round. Dignitas managed to establish a good defense, reducing NiP's lead from 10-2 to 10-4 before NiP could take the final round and end the first half by 11-4. However, even a won T pistol round couldn't save Dignitas from dropping out in the end. f0rest played a big eco round, bringing NiP back on track to take the remaining rounds and win by 16-5, ending both the map and the series.

Ninjas in Pyjamas have definitely underlined their ambition to take this title after losing the final of DreamHack Winter to Fnatic. GeT_RiGhT and his team proved their superiority, leaving Team Dignitas only small chances to score rounds. With a dominating win under their belts, the Swedes are now waiting for either LGB or Virtus.pro to join them on the big stage tomorrow. In the post-match interview, GeT_RiGhT said:

"We worked so hard to get where we are today. This is just amazing!"

While happy Swedes will now prepare for the big match tomorrow, the sad Danes have no more matches to play. Even though they said they were happy with simply reaching the semifinal, the way NiP took them down must have hurt. However, as we're only in March of 2014, there will be plenty of other chances for them to make it to a final match.
