Today, January 6th, the first Dota 2 LAN tournament of 2017 kicked off in Genting Highlands, Malaysia. Eight teams from around the world gathered at the Arena of Stars to battle it out for a US$250,000 prize pool and the coveted ESL One trophy.
Group A
Group A has Virtus.pro, Newbee, Team NP and FNATIC competing for two slots in the semifinals. After today’s three matches, it was the Chinese squad, Newbee, who topped the group with a 2-0 result and can now prepare for Sunday’s playoffs. The remaining teams will continue their battle in the elimination and decider matches tomorrow.

Group B
Group B, consisting of Digital Chaos, Wings Gaming, WG.Unity and Execration, saw Digital Chaos advancing to the semifinals after a thrilling and tense TI6 finals rematch against Wings Gaming. Wings, Execration and WG.Unity will continue their group matches tomorrow to determine who will join DC in the playoffs.
