We’re excited to announce that Counter-Strike: Global Offensive will be returning to Intel Extreme Masters as part of this year’s gamescom event! With six teams to face off in a truly unique invitational where fans will get to call the shots, CS:GO is definitely back with a bang.
The tournament
The event will see the following six teams face off:
- TSM Kinguin
- Renegades
- TEAM ENVYUS
- Counter Logic Gaming
- mousesports
- SK Gaming
However, the event format will be unlike that of any other Intel Extreme Masters event.
The format
Each team will have four lives. Every game a team loses will cost them a life, while every game they win will allow the victors to select which two teams must play each other next. Play will continue until one team remains - the ultimate victor and winner of the lion’s share of the $85,000 prize pool.
In addition to this thrilling format twist, map choices will be in the hands of the fans, thus allowing them to decide where these titans of the CS:GO world will do battle.
Welcome back, CS:GO!
Michal Blicharz, managing director of pro gaming at ESL, said of the game’s return to the Intel Extreme Masters lineup:
“We are very proud of our Counter-Strike legacy, so it was a great pleasure to reintroduce this franchise to the Intel Extreme Masters. This showcase format will hopefully be a great one-time warmup for the rest of what’s to come this season.”
CS:GO will also feature at Intel Extreme Masters San Jose in November as well as the Intel Extreme Masters World Championship in Katowice in 2016, so be sure to follow ESL CS:GO on Facebook and Twitter for the latest updates.
