From October 6-8, $90,000 are on the line in the ESL African Championship Season 2 Finals for CS:GO and Hearthstone. After a hard-fought period of qualifiers and regular season matches, we’re excited to see the continents top four CS:GO teams and Hearthstone players compete at the rAge expo in Johannesburg, South Africa.
Qualifiers & regular season
The second season started with four qualifiers for CS:GO. Two for South Africa from which the best two teams advanced to relegations against the bottom four from Season 1, as well as two qualifiers for North Africa from which the top four teams advanced to the Season 2 group stage. Similarly the best two players from both Hearthstone open qualifiers advanced to the relegation matches against the bottom four from the last season.
With the finals teams and player confirmed for the season, each CS:GO team from South and North Africa played one match per week for a total of seven weeks of play in a BO2 format. The top two teams from each region ended up qualifying for the offline finals. In Hearthstone every player played two matches per week during the regular season in a BO5 conquest format, ending up with 14 matches played in total per player from which the top four players eventually qualified for the offline finals as well.
