Week 5 of the North American Halo Championship Series: Pro League featured a heavy-handed rematch between the top two teams in the league, along with a strong push from a newly minted roster that previously sat toward the bottom of the pack. Here’s a look at what happened in Week 5.

DAY 1

Team EnVyUs have performed well lately and have established themselves as one of the best teams in North America. They took Counter Logic Gaming to a fifth game in Week 4 and were scheduled to play them again, but had a match against OpTic Gaming beforehand. Game 1, Truth Capture The Flag, was a close back and forth struggle that culminated in a 3-2 win for nV. OpTic Gaming played an exceptional game of Eden Slayer to tie the series up 1-1 and looked to ride that momentum as the series went on. Team EnVyUs quickly squashed any speed on OpTic’s side in Game 3 by winning The Rig Strongholds 100-24, and went on to win the series 3-1 on the back of a 3-2 victory on Stasis Capture The Flag.

In Week 5, Counter Logic Gaming played with amateur sensation Rammy as a substitute in place of Royal 2 who was out due to illness. This was the second week that Rammy sat in with CLG in the Pro League and his performance once again did not disappoint. CLG went up against Renegades and the first game of the series, Fathom Capture The Flag, went down to the wire. A wild finish led to a close 3-2 win for CLG, and Renegades answered back with a win of their own in Game 2, The Rig Slayer. Unfortunately for Renegades, the final two games were landslides. CLG won Game 3, Eden Strongholds, 100-14 and Game 4, Truth Capture The Flag, 3-0.

Team Allegiance recently made a roster swap by adding Heinz in place of Goofy, and the change is paying dividends. This week, ALG went up against Evil Geniuses and Game 1, Truth Capture The Flag, was all EG. They went on to earn a 3-1 win before loading into Game 2, The Rig Slayer. Team Allegiance brushed off their previous loss on their way to a commanding 50-35 win to tie up the series, which set the stage for an incredible comeback on Plaza Strongholds. Evil Geniuses were in control for the majority of the game, amassing a 98-38 lead with a little over five minutes left on the clock. EG were seconds away from closing the game out, but Allegiance rattled off 62 straight points and won with a score of 100-98.

With the series score 2-1, Team Allegiance put the nail in the coffin on Fathom Capture The Flag to win the series 3-1.

The last time Enigma 6 played Team Liquid, the series went to an unexpected Game 5 with E6 pulling out the win. Game 1 of this meeting on Fathom Capture The Flag was just as close, and E6 took the first game in OT. Game 2 was another nail-biter, but E6 stole another win to gain a 2-0 series lead.

Game 3 was not nearly as close as the first two, and E6 rolled to a 3-0 sweep to finish off Day 1.

DAY 2

Renegades played OpTic Gaming in the first series of Day 2, and both teams were coming off of losses. Renegades took Game 1, Stasis Capture The Flag, by a score of 3-1. OpTic Gaming then responded with a statement win on The Rig Slayer, crushing Renegades 50-28 to tie the series up 1-1. Renegades did not let that affect them however, and went on to win Game 3, Eden Strongholds, and Game 4, Truth Capture The Flag, to take the series 3-1.

Team Allegiance were next up against Team Liquid who quickly built a 2-0 lead after winning Coliseum Capture The Flag and Truth Slayer. Just as it seemed like Allegiance had nothing left in the tank, they won Game 3, Eden Strongholds, 100-85. They then were able to take another map point, winning a tightly contested Game 4 on Fathom Capture The Flag 3-2. Game 5, Coliseum Slayer, was another close game, but Team Allegiance won 50-45 and took the series 3-2.

Up next was the highly anticipated rematch between Team EnVyUs and Counter Logic Gaming. CLG took Game 1, Truth Capture The Flag, comfortably with a final score of 3-1 and played a very close Game 2 of Regret Slayer. Both teams jockeyed for map control, but CLG won the game 50-48. The Rig Strongholds has been a weakness for CLG all season and Game 3 was no different. Down 2-0 in the series, nV put together a clean game to win 100-59 and force a Game 4, Fathom Capture The Flag. Thanks to Frosty’s game-leading 28 kills, CLG went on to win the series 3-1.

Rounding out Week 5 was Enigma 6 vs. Evil Geniuses. Game 1, Truth Capture The Flag, was deadlocked at two flags apiece as time was running out. Bubu dubu got his hands on camo and proceeded to sneakily return the flag, making a huge play to give them a 1-0 series lead.

Enigma 6 dominated Game 2 on Eden Slayer to give them a 2-0 series lead as they went into Game 3, The Rig Strongholds. E6 managed to build a substantial lead and EG were not able to work their way back into the game. Enigma 6 won 100-42 and in doing so swept Evil Geniuses 3-0.

After Week 5, there are three teams in the middle of the pack fighting for the fourth spot in the Summer Season Finals.
