The B A N A N A B O Y S are back in town: can Joe Miller's ESL Fantasy team come out on top at Katowice?

Last time I wrote about ESL Fantasy for an Intel Extreme Masters event, the
B A N A N A B O Y S topped the league in San Jose (granted, along with a lot of other very smart people). This time around, we are at the World Championships in Katowice. We have eight fantastic qualified teams, and this time I thought that I would take some risks.

With that said, here is the B A N A N A B O Y S team lineup for Katowice:

B A N A N A B O Y S

  • Top: fredy122
  • Jungle: Svenskeren
  • Mid: Bjergsen
  • AD Carry: FORG1VEN
  • Support: nRated

You can see that I decided to go with a (probably controversial) all-Western team that is made up mostly of current number one EU LCS team SK Gaming. For my team slot, I decided to take CJ Entus from the other group.

Why would I not just draft as many GE Tigers players as possible, you might ask? Well, I took the safe route in San Jose, and this time I fancied a little bit of a gamble.

SK are currently leading the EU LCS and will take on the yoe Flash Wolves in the first game of the group. yFW are currently hammering their way through LMS Spring with a 16-1 record, having only lost a single game to the Taipei Assassins. They also train heavily with Korean teams.

I think that SK Gaming, while it won’t be easy, will pick up the win against yFW and move through to the second round, where they will most likely face the GE Tigers. This is where the big gamble comes in.

If SK can beat the GE Tigers in a best of one (let’s be honest, the ideal scenario for an upset), they will go on to face the second placed team in the arguably weaker group B in the semifinals.

Then we come to my fallback plan: Bjergsen and CJ Entus.

I think TSM will have a tough time against WE but are certainly capable of winning that game. I’m not sure if they will be able to rock the CJ Entus boat, but that’s why I took CJ Entus as my team.

If SK don’t manage to go through the group, the B A N A N A B O Y S ESL Fantasy dream is over, but if they manage a surprise win against the GE Tigers and Bjergsen/CJ beat up group B, maybe I have a chance to win it all!

Can you beat B A N A N A B O Y S?

Do you think you have what it takes to beat B A N A N A B O Y S at the Intel Extreme Masters World Championship in Katowice this year?
