With the Season 1 finals of the World Championship Series (WCS) still to be played in Poitiers, France, we are happy to be able to reveal the location for the finals of Season 2.
From the 26th to the 28th of June, Toronto, Canada will have the honor of welcoming the best StarCraft II players in the world. Only a few hundred meters away from Lake Ontario, the players will get to play in the award-winning Metro Toronto Convention Center, which has already hosted both a G20 and a G7 Summit as well as Fan Expo Canada, which is where Intel Extreme Masters Toronto was held in 2014. With a shot at playing at this remarkable location up for grabs, the qualification will be even more tense.
Ken Silva, director of pro gaming at ESL, said of the event:
“It will be the biggest esports event Toronto and even Canada has ever seen. We are super excited about making esports history!”
Starting on April the 11th, players from Europe, America, China, Taiwan and Oceania will once again try their best to earn a spot among the Challengers to take on the current Premier League players. You can find the full schedule of the qualifiers as well as the WCS Challenger and WCS Premier League on the official WCS website.
Premier Pick system
Season 2 will also see the Premier Pick system being introduced in order to make WCS Challenger matches even more exciting than ever before.
Premier Pick will mean that Premier League players will be ranked by their performances in the previous season as well as WCS points (as of the previous WCS season finals) in order to pick their opponents from the qualified players in their region’s Challenger pool.
With this announced, we can really look forward to even more thrilling WCS action in Season 2. What are you looking forward to in Season 2 the most? Tell us in the comments below!
