Clean sweeps, clutch plays, and emerging rivalries in the Halo World Championship 2017 Finals

Players and fans arrived full of energy and enthusiasm to kick off the first day of the Halo World Championship 2017 Finals. The 12 best Halo teams in the world came out strong for Day 1. Every team came ready to fight for their spot in the winners bracket and prove why they are the best in the world.

HIGHLIGHTS

After coming out of Las Vegas Qualifiers as the number one NA team, the defending world championship roster of OpTic Gaming not only displayed a dominant performance, but maintained fantastic communication. SnakeBite had an exceptional day, at one point contributing a huge 24 kills in Eden Stronghold against Supremacy for OpTic’s first series of the day. OpTic went on to sweep FabE in a Bo7 in the winners bracket.

Team Liquid came away from Day 1 with 3-0 wins against both London Conspiracy and Luminosity Gaming. Liquid showed amazing teamwork that led to some crazy plays from the whole roster, with clutch kills and assists from Eco and StelluR. However, Qristola also had a notable performance on Eden Stronghold where he scored 17 kills.

EnVyUs came back after losing 3-1 to Splyce in their first series of the day and swept Immunity to make it to the the winners bracket. EnVyUs ultimately fell to Liquid in Game 7 on Regret Slayer, but EnVyUs kept the game close. In spite of the loss, we saw Mikwen play an amazing series, at one point contributing half his team’s kills in Game 7.

In the last series of the day, many thought that Crowd Pleasers were done for the night after APG pounded the flag with less than 10 seconds on the clock to secure a third win for Str8. Crowd Pleasers then responded with three straight wins to push the series to Game 7 and the rivalry between the two teams was palpable. CP stood up to let Str8 know they were done for in one of the most memorable moments of the night.

Everything came down to Game 7 Regret Slayer where Str8 Rippin held off a reverse sweep from Crowd Pleasers and took the series to advance in the winners bracket!
