We first interviewed Madlencia at last year’s Intel Extreme Masters Katowice, which saw her cosplay debut as everyone’s favorite loose cannon Jinx. A year later (and a few more costumes and characters down the line), Madlencia’s incredible Draven cosplay took first place in the official Intel Extreme Masters Katowice 2015 cosplay competition. Here’s what she had to say...
ESL: Welcome back, Madlencia! You’ve come a long way since 2014’s Jinx cosplay (which was still an amazing first attempt) - what other characters have you cosplayed as or been working on since then (excluding Draven)?
Madlencia: Hi again! Talking with you brings back so many good memories! 🙂 I've cosplayed two other versions of Jinx - both are fan-made! The first one was Officer Jinx, and the second was Bonejangles Jinx (the design for this was made by FireCatRich). With my Bonejangles Jinx, I won second prize in the Poznań Game Arena cosplay contest! I also cosplayed as Lux from League of Legends (both the classic and Christmas version) and I won some prizes with her as well! It was an exciting year for me!
ESL: What made you decide on Draven?
Madlencia: The story is actually pretty funny! Me and my friends went to a party and took silly photos, and in one of them I took part of my hair and put it under my nose to imitate a mustache. The next day after the party, my friends looked at the photo and told me that I would make a perfect Draven, so I decided to do him as soon as possible!
ESL: How long did it take you to make your Draven costume?
Madlencia: It took me about a month in total.
ESL: Roughly how much do you think the entire costume cost to make?
Madlencia: The cost was... holy, pretty huge! This was probably my most expensive costume!
ESL: How comfortable was it to wear all that all day?
Madlencia: It wasn't really comfortable because of the wig and lenses. It hurt my eyes so much because the lights in the Spodek are really weird! Also wig wasn't really comfortable because it constricted my head 🙁
ESL: What was the trickiest part of your costume to make?
Madlencia: Hard to decide... weapons and wig, probably 🙂
ESL: Is there anything about your costume you think you could improve?
Madlencia: Nah, I think I made everything as I wanted it to look 🙂
ESL: How do you get into character when cosplaying? What’s it like to be Draven (and male!)?
Madlencia: Being DRAAAVEN was actually a lot better than Jinx. Seriously, I was flirting with all babes at IEM, I was screaming, I was FABULOUS... holy, I got into character again. Sorry!
ESL: Do you think you’re anything like Draven in real life?
Madlencia: I like touching boobies. Is that Draven enough?
ESL: Last time you said you didn’t get a chance to see much of the actual esports going on at Intel Extreme Masters Katowice. Did you have enough free time to catch any this time or was it all Draven, all the time?
Madlencia: I had no free time to watch the matches actually, but I had plenty of time to get some babes and flirt with ladies! It was goooooood!
ESL: What was your favorite thing about this year’s Intel Extreme Masters World Championship?
Madlencia: My favorite thing was... being with my friends and my boyfriend. Seriously, the cosplay community is the best!
ESL: What were your favorite cosplays from Intel Extreme Masters Katowice 2015?
Madlencia: Some of my faves were Steel Legion Garen, Azir, Vi, all the Ahris - there were so many good costumes I can't decide which one was my favorite!
ESL: If you could pick anyone in the world to play ranked with, who with you pick as your duo partner?
Madlencia: SEXPEKE PLEASE.
ESL: After over a year of cosplaying, are there any tips or things you’ve learned that you’d like to pass on to cosplayers who are just starting out?
Madlencia: I have only one tip - guys, HAVE FUN WITH YOUR COSPLAY! It's the best feeling in the world!
ESL: Thanks for taking the time to speak with us again, Madlencia!
