With little over a month left until the Intel Extreme Masters World Championship gets started in Katowice, Poland, it’s time to take a look at the StarCraft II qualifier.
There are currently eight slots left, which will be filled by three open qualifiers. These spots are up for grabs by players worldwide, with each qualifier to take place on a different Battle.net server (the Americas, Europe, Korea and Taiwan).
All cups are open to everyone, and players can take part in one, two or all of them. Two slots will be available for the Americas while Korea and Europe get a bonus slot for being the world champion and home region respectively.
The qualifiers will take place on February 23rd and 24th at the times listed below:
- American Server: February 23rd at 19:00 EST
- KR/TW Server: February 24th at 17:00 KR
- European Server: February 24th at 17:00 CET
We also have eight players participating who have qualified for the World Championship by placing first and second in other Intel Extreme Masters events this season, namely Shenzhen, Toronto, San Jose and Taipei.
These players are:
- Intel Extreme Masters: Shenzhen: TaeJa and Solar
- Intel Extreme Masters: Toronto: Flash and Zest
- Intel Extreme Masters: San Jose: herO and Rain
- Intel Extreme Masters: Taipei: Life and Maru
The tournament will consist of 16 players in a single elimination best of five format, with a best of seven final. Players will be competing for US$117,707 in prize money, divided as follows:
- 1st place: US$68,707
- 2nd place: US$15,000
- 3rd-4th place: US$7,000
- 5th-8th place: US$3,000
- 9th-16th place: US$1,000
Additionally, players will be able to earn 7000 WCS points, making it one of the most important events on the esports calendar this year!
