We are excited to unveil the first Dota 2 stop for ESL One in 2017, ESL One Genting, at the Resorts World Genting in Malaysia! The first ever Malaysian ESL One event will take place from January 6th to 8th in the prestigious Arena of Stars, which is part of the Resorts World Genting and feature eight of the world’s best Dota 2 teams as they compete for a US$250,000 prize pool.
The incredible passion displayed at the recent ESL One Manila event fueled the search for more opportunities to bring esports to the big stage in South East Asia. As such we are incredibly happy to collaborate with the Resorts World Genting for our second large scale event in the region. The Arena of Stars ampitheatre on the resort and it’s 6,000 seats are accustomed global scale events, having hosted numerous film awards and world famous music acts such as Elton John and the Black Eyed Peas.
Kevin Tann, Vice President of Resorts World Genting, is looking forward to working with ESL.
“Esports is a massive and growing industry globally, and we hope to play a meaningful role in developing the local and regional market. We are proud to be collaborating with ESL, the world's biggest professional provider of esports, that offers not just tournaments like ESL One but also news, live broadcast and support in the esports community.”
Ulrich Schulze, VP of Pro Gaming at ESL, is equally excited to work with Resorts World Genting on the new project.
“With their very deep understanding of the local market and its high-end facilities, Resorts World Genting will help us open a whole new avenue for delivering the region’s best esports event to date, and take this competition to new heights.”
Similarly to past ESL One events, the eight competing teams will consist of direct invites, qualifier teams as well as a dedicated spot for a local, Malaysian team. In addition, we will also once again be working closely with the Mineski Events Team to ensure an amazing experience for the fans, teams and player.
