Counter-Strike: Global Offensive has never seen more tournaments than within 2016. As 2017 looks promising as well, we are adjusting the ESL CS:GO World Ranking in order to maintain a certain base for our invites as well as reflecting the performances of players and teams better. These changes will be affecting all events coming up in 2017, but not affect past events.

Changes to the ranking for 2017

Dividing tournaments into proper tiers has been a problem in 2016. While two of the tiers clearly dominated, one tier was seldomly occurring. We are adjusting the requirements for the existing tiers as well as adding a new one, to include smaller tournaments where at least some ranked teams take part in. On top of this, we reduced the number of teams in tier 2 tournaments that receive points according to their ranking and adjusted the points gained for the top 3 tiers to fit in the new 4th tier.

While being more accurate on the biggest two kinds of tournaments, these changes also give teams in smaller tournaments a chance to shine and climb within the ranking. We are looking forward on how these changes will affect both the power ranking (player based) and club ranking.
