League of Legends history has been written on day two of the Intel Extreme Masters World Championship

After a few surprises during day one it’s time for the decider matches of group A and B and the semifinals so we can find out who will get to go to the finals on day three. Let’s have a look at the results of today’s matches!

Decider matches

GROUP A: SK Gaming vs. yoe Flash Wolves

BANS

  • SK Gaming: Irelia, Nidalee, Ahri
  • yoe Flash Wolves: Graves, Zed, Lucian

PICKS

  • SK Gaming: LeBlanc, Corki, Gnar, Rengar, Lulu
  • yoe Flash Wolves: Maokai, Rek’Sai, Morgana, Kogmaw, Ezreal

Our first game of the day showed a much stronger yoe Flash Wolves than we saw on day one, they played very aggressive at times and put the game to their hand, picking up an early tower and dragon. After that kills happened for both teams but yoe Flash Wolves kept dominant around dragon, picking up 2 more of them before SK Gaming finally managed to pick up their first one in a final attempt to get back into the game. The next teamfights didn’t go SK’s way either and a final Baron meant the victory for yoe Flash Wolves, who moved on to the semi finals!

GROUP B: Team WE vs. CJ Entus

BANS

  • Team WE: Lulu, Thresh, LeBlanc
  • CJ Entus: Rek’Sai, Rumble, Maokai

PICKS

  • Team WE: Jarvan IV, Janna, Diana, Sivir, Sion
  • CJ Entus: Hecarim, Corki, Viktor, Lee Sin, Annie

Team We came out on top during picks and bans where Maokai got banned for them but they picked up the Sion instead. CJ Entus also ended up picking Annie which didn’t seem to synergise quite well with the comp. Overall the bot lane synergy seemed off this game and vision control overall was superior for Team WE. The early game however was quite even, with objectives and kills getting split between the teams. It wasn’t until later in the game that dragons and Barons tipped the scale in Team WE’s favor and they managed to ace CJ Entus before taking down their nexus. Team WE was definitely the underdog going into this match but they showed to be as strong as they were against Gambit and it looks like they’ll get their chance to really prove themselves by playing against the GE Tigers!

Semi final #1: Team SoloMid vs. yoe Flash Wolves

GAME ONE

BANS

  • Team SoloMid: Morgana, Janna, Rek’Sai
  • yoe Flash Wolves: Rumble, Sivir, Vi

PICKS

  • Team SoloMid: Maokai, Lee Sin, Corki, Lissandra, Thresh
  • yoe Flash Wolves: Zed, Nidalee, Nami, Lucian, Irelia

Steak managed to finally get his hands on Irelia in champion select for this game but TSM did a good job of shutting him down, leaving him with only 1cs at 8 minutes. yoe Flash Wolves did pick up first blood however, after diving a tower in botlane. Sacrificing their top laner in classic Gambit fashion showed to work for yFW when they picked up a baron because of him distracting TSM in the bot lane. yoe Flash Wolves was suddenly 1 game away from the finals!

GAME TWO

BANS

  • yoe Flash Wolves: Rumble, Sivir, Nidalee
  • Team SoloMid: Morgana, Maokai, Rek’Sai

PICKS

  • yoe Flash Wolves: Corki, Janna, LeBlanc, Irelia, Rengar
  • Team SoloMid: Zed, Lee Sin, Lulu, Lucian, Lissandra

A big part of this second game got decided in the mid lane when we saw a 1v1 between Bjergsen and Maple early on which resulted in a kill for Bjergsen, just as in their win against Team WE yesterday. Not only Bjergsen but the entire Team SoloMid showed up a lot stronger this game, giving Neverloses no chance to get ahead, putting his Corki way behind at 20 minutes which delayed his Trinity Force by quite a lot. Regardless of how strong Bjergsen’s Zed got (5/1/1 at 24 minutes) it still took them multiple Barons to finally close out the game.

GAME THREE

BANS

  • yoe Flash Wolves: Sivir, Rumble, Zed
  • Team SoloMid: Morgana, Maokai, Rek’Sai

PICKS

  • yoe Flash Wolves: Nidalee, Corki, Ezreal, Sion, Nami
  • Team SoloMid: LeBlanc, Lulu, Vi, Lucian, Annie

Everything was on the line this game for both teams and neither of them wanted to give up first blood but it eventually went over to Dyrus’ Lulu in the top lane after a failed gank by yoe Flash Wolves. After this TSM seemed to find their foothold in this game and picked up kill after kill after kill with multiple aces as a result. Next to those aces they picked up two Baron buffs and closed out the game shortly after the second one, leaving yoe Flash Wolves with only 1 kill on the board.

Semi final #2: GE Tigers vs. Team WE

GAME ONE

BANS

  • GE Tigers: Diana, Jarvan IV, Sivir
  • Team WE: Viktor, Lissandra, Lulu

PICKS

  • GE Tigers: Rek’Sai, Janna, Corki, Ezreal, Rumble
  • Team WE: Maokai, LeBlanc, Lee Sin, Thresh, Kalista

Team WE started out strong, picking up first blood on Maokai and even managed to amass a 4k gold lead in the early game. The Tigers waited patiently to strike back and managed to do so as everyone expected them too, with an ace at the 25 minute mark. Things spiralled out of control from there on and GE Tigers ended up 15k gold ahead by 37 minutes, at which point they took down Team WE’s nexus.

GAME TWO

BANS

  • Team WE: Viktor, Lissandra, Lulu
  • GE Tigers: Diana, LeBlanc, Rek’Sai

PICKS

  • Team WE: Jarvan IV, Sion, Janna, Ezreal, Ahri
  • GE Tigers: Rumble, Corki, Lee Sin, Nami, Yasuo

GE Tigers decided to play a new champion in their second game against Team WE with the Yasuo pick and it just didn’t seem to work out for the Tigers. Their comp seemed inferior in almost every teamfight, resulting in several aces for Team WE. A final Baron was enough for WE to close out the game, resulting in a game three in what everyone expected to be a 2-0 series for GE Tigers!

GAME THREE

BANS

  • Team WE: Viktor, Lissandra, Lulu
  • GE Tigers: Diana, Sion, Jarvan IV

PICKS

  • Team WE: Rek’Sai, Morgana, Ahri, Sivir, Hecarim
  • GE Tigers: LeBlanc, Janna, Maokai, Corki, Lee Sin

Team WE started the game out with first blood on jungler Spirit after a gank in the mid lane. Xiye’s Ahri gets the assist but picks up a killl a little later after an amazing play! All of this resulted in a 6k gold lead at 20 minutes for Team WE and despite a good teamfight by GE Tigers they just couldn't seem to find an opening to get back into the game. League of Legends history was written minutes later as GE Tigers’ nexus got destroyed and they lost their first series ever!
