ESL One Frankfurt is starting to take shape, with the first regional qualifiers having concluded. After Fnatic secured their spot through the SEA qualifier, compLexity followed suit in the NA qualifiers, finishing ahead of the likes of Shazam and Digital Chaos to give us five out of eight confirmed teams. Check out how coL paved their way to their second ESL One appearance in 2016!
The qualifier
The parallels between compLexity and Fnatic in the recent ESL One qualifiers for Manila and Frankfurt are quite intriguing. Both squads managed to qualify for both ESL One competitions, each time showing that they are the team to beat in their respective scenes. It’s becoming quite apparent that, after Evil Geniuses and Team Secret (if you want to call them North America), compLexity is not missing a step and are on track for an impressive 2016 campaign.
As one of the favorites to qualify for ESL One Frankfurt together with Shazam and DC, it’s not a surprise to see them succeed in their impressive eighth LAN qualifier in a row. But it wasn’t all easy going on their road to Frankfurt. In each of their series, their opponents managed to snag a match off them, forcing coL to be on top of their game. It took them an intense ten games to get through EnemyGG, Team Freedom and eventually Shazam in the finals, and this all seems to underline Swindlezz’s comments about the growth of the North American scene.
Can compLexity put North America on their back in Frankfurt?
With neither EG nor Secret heading to Frankfurt, the pride of North America is resting solely on compLexity’s shoulders. Can they seize their chance and break through to win their first major LAN of 2016?
