Marquette is a highly respected, independent university founded by Catholic Jesuits in 1881. Jesuit education around the world is known for its academic rigor combined with care for the whole student. Over 12,000 students are enrolled in programs leading to bachelor's, master's, doctoral, dentistry and law degrees. These include over 600 international students from 63 countries.

Approximately 99 percent of all regular Marquette faculty members hold a Ph.D. or similar degree in their field. The student-faculty ratio is 14:1 allowing greater individualized attention.

Marquette recognizes outstanding student achievement by providing scholarships to over 90 percent of first-year and transfer undergraduate international students. Transfer credit is also available for students who have completed advanced course work, such as studies at universities outside the United States.

Housing in university residence halls is guaranteed for all undergraduate students and is a home away from home.

The knowledgeable staff of the Office of International Education organizes orientation sessions for new students, provides year-round cross-cultural and immigration advising and coordinates social activities and local excursions. An Islamic prayer room is available every day for Muslim students.
