The Center for Language Education (CLE)

The Center for Language Education (CLE) offers the Intensive English Program (IEP) and special language programs including English Language and Pedagogy, Teaching World Languages, and ESOL Endorsement. The CLE promotes language education opportunities for international students, certifies teachers in world languages, and endorses individuals to teach English to speakers of other languages.

Intensive English Program (IEP)

The Intensive English Program is available for participants seeking to advance their English language fluency in order to perform with linguistic competence and confidence in academic, professional, and social settings. Classes are designed to focus on primary language skills using a communicative approach at the beginner level. At the intermediate and advanced levels, the emphasis is on the development of fluency and accuracy in academic settings for students who are planning to study at a university. No TOEFL will be required for admission to North Georgia if a student successfully passes the advanced level of the Intensive English Program (IEP).

Admission

The minimum age for admission to the Intensive English Program is 18 years, and prospective students must possess a high school diploma or equivalent.

Curriculum

• 15-week session for Fall/Spring and 8-week session for Summer

Medical Insurance

North Georgia College & State University requires all international students to be covered by health insurance. Each semester, all students who have been issued an I-20 from North Georgia will be billed for the cost of this insurance.

Housing

Prospective students will stay in North Georgia student dormitory. Homestay options are also available upon request.

Meals

Participants are provided with a meal card for breakfast, lunch, and dinners in the Dining Hall. Kitchens in the campus housing and apartments allow for individuals to prepare food on their own. Local restaurants are available in Dahlonega.

Activities

Excursions may include visits to the Martin Luther King Jr. Center, the CNN Center, the World of Coca-Cola, the Atlanta Aquarium, or attending a professional basketball, baseball, football, or ice hockey game in Atlanta.

Visa

The Center for Global Engagement at North Georgia will issue an I-20 for international applicants seeking to study at the CLE. The I-20 (an official invitation to study at NGCSU) is used by the international applicants at his or her interview in the U.S. consulate or embassy to secure an F-1 visa to enter the United States.
