Overview

The Intensive English Program (IEP) at Georgia State University offers academic English courses to individuals coming from outside the U.S.A. and those living in the Atlanta metropolitan area. Most IEP students seek to enter academic programs at Georgia State University or other equally prestigious institutions. The IEP offers:

  • academic language courses that prepare you for U.S. college and university study
  • supportive small class environments with knowledgeable, friendly instructors
  • additional instruction free of charge with ESL tutors
  • several extracurricular activities offered each week
  • access to all university facilities and events, including the computer center, library, gymnasium, health center, concerts, and films
  • housing in homestays, local apartments, and university residence halls

English Courses

Intensive English Program courses prepare you for college and university study in the United States. Courses include oral communication for academic purposes, reading and listening for academic purposes, extensive reading, structure and composition, and academic writing for university exams. You can also participate in IEP activities including our weekly conversation group, service-learning projects, and visits to Atlanta museums and other attractions.

IEP Academic Calendar

English courses are offered during three sessions each year: fall, spring, and summer semester.

Application Deadline Dates
Students should submit their applications and all necessary documents by the following dates:

Fall Semester: July 8
Spring Semester: December 2
Summer Semester: April 8

Semester Dates
Fall (late August to mid-December): 14 weeks
Spring (early-January to early May): 14 weeks
Summer (mid-May to early August): 10 weeks
